Colby Automatic Lighter

c. 1947 This lighter has a unique squeeze mechanism that opens it and, in the process, causes the spark wheel to strike the flint and produce the flame. The lighter is made of a metal known as Monel.More Info Two different pocket models were made - the earlier one had screws on the bottom for flint and fuel; the later had a single screw for the flint which also allowed removal of the bottom for refueling. A table model was also made - strange looking as it had the lighter laying on its side atop a base.

More InfoColibri

Colibri Original 'Kickstart' Lighter

Kickstart lighters were produced beginning about 1927. This lighter requires more work to operate than you might imagine... The lever is pushed down and back to open the top (which may also produce a spark going in the wrong direction). Next, the lever must be forcefully brought back to its original position to produce a spark going toward the wick to produce a flame.

Colibri M23 Butane Lighter

Really the same as the Ibelo M23! Not so surprising since Colibri and Ibelo/Jbelo are the same principals - first in Germany then in England.

Colibri Molectric 80 Lighter

The Molectric introduced the world to pocket piezoelectric lighters in 1967 with the Molectric 80 being the first one - succeeded 2 years later by the Molectric 88. Though patented in 1962, it took awhile to get it right for production and consumer sales. There were at least 2 versions of this lighter. An apparently early version had a screw cap over the fuel valve in the bottom and required an adapter for fueling (see 'Another View') while the later version had what we now think of as a standard fuel valve. The very first piezoelectric was the Mauriman Business Table Lighter in 1966.
