Chi Chi Club

Palm Springs, CA

Chi Chi Aluminum Block Lighter

Irwin Schuman's Chi Chi Club (opened 1936 as the Desert Grill by Jack Freeman and in 1941 became the Chi Chi under Schuman) was the number one hangout in it's day.... Elvis, Liberace, Sinatra, Merv Griffin, Dean Martin, and so many more (they all played this gem of a club)! If you were in Palm Springs, California, simply put "everyone went to the Chi Chi". With brother Mark Schuman, Irwin build and operated the Riveria Hotel in 1952. c. late 1940s - early 1950s. Two other identical lighters a shown with the Unbranded lighters and one is blank and the other has the USMC emblem on it - undoubtedly produced by the same company that produced this lighter. More Info
KOK-0AF

The lighter was almost surely made by Atlas Industries of Los Angeles, CA between 1942-1947 as it seems it likely had an "O.P.A. Retail Ceiling Price $3.50" and the Office of Price Administration was was active during the dates above. NOTE that ther OPA price was not for the customized "Chi Chi" lighter.
