Fusee (Tinder Cord)

Definition: fusee - as in small fuse like used to light cannons. The cord is impregnated with chemicals that assist it in burning. The cap has a hook that goes through the cord. It is periodically unhooked and moved further down the cord as the cord is gradually burned up.

Preparation: The top end of the cord is lit so it chars a bit. The cord is pulled back into the cylinder and the cap follows and lack of oxygen extinguishes the cord.

Usage:To re-light and use, the cord is pulled up with the cap and the spark wheel turned. The sparks readily ignite the cord again.

The cord is slow burning and produces no flame - this is why it is often referred to as a "foxhole lighter" because it is so much less visible than a flame lighter.
